I do not acknowledge the ICC

The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague issued today an arrest warrant for Sudanese president Omar Hassan al-Bashir. He has been accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes. I welcome the attempts of brining a person like al-Bashir into justice. However, I don’t acknowledge the court, at least not until its authority is able to encompass all war criminal in the world, not only some African leaders in forgotten countries.

I think you are a little bit too hard in your condemnation of the ICC. Let us remember that this is a new institution working with an unclear mandate. I think we need to give it some time to find it's place in the world. But yes off course ideally it would also bring Bill Clinton (http://afrikabloggen.wordpress.com/2008/07/03/nelson-mandels-och-bill-clinton-den-enes-terrorist/) among others, to court. But developments such as that takes time.

I have to agree with you. Until some American, Russian and Chineese presidents or leaders have been charged for crimes against humanity, there is little, or no world respect for the ICC.

Well I am being pragmatic. As long as the ICC's mandate only includes some countries' citizens I will have difficulties taking it serious.

I mean, you are not solving any problems (e.g. relieving tension in areas previously struck by armed conflicts) by saying that only African leaders can be prosecuted by the ICC. (I know that this is not entirely true, but this is how the situation is perceived by many people in Africa).

Håller fullständigt med, man måste ju till och med hålla med Sudaneserna när de ignorerar ICC med argumentet att inte ens amerikanerna har skrivit avtal med ICC. Om sen Bashir ska ställas inför rätta är en annan femma.
